Long Term Planning of the Primary Mathematics Curriculum – Pre-primary to Year 3
Facilitators: Lesley Stoffels and Paula Mildenhall
Â
33 teachers met in the school holidays to take part in a professional learning session which focussed on multiplication strategies and long term planning. In the first part of the session the teachers, who were from Kindy through to Year 4, heard from Paula Mildenhall how to introduce beginning multiplication strategies. Following this the teachers were able to try some interesting activities to develop multiplicative thinking that they could use back in their own schools.
In the second part of the session Lesley Stoffels explained her own approach to long term planning and how this was structured to ensure the Australian mathematics curriculum was covered in a meaningful way. Once this was concluded the participant teachers were able to share their own planning documents and evaluate what would be the best way to plan the mathematics curriculum for 2017.
It was a wonderful morning working with a group of dedicated teachers who were prepared to give up their school holidays. It is hope that more sessions similar to this will run in the future.
